Malachite’s Big Hole

Geopolitical Division of North America - 1750:

By 1750 all thirteen of the English Colonies had been created and in the far northwest the Russians were establishing their colonial interests.

Although the relative size of the English versus the French claims had not changed greatly since 1700, France had already effectively lost the competition for North American Empire.  The population of the English colonies had exploded relative to the French colonies in the preceding 50 years, and it would be just a matter of time before the French would lose out to their more numerous rivals.
